Trauma & PTSD

When the past doesn't fully settle—persistent reactivity, disconnection, and patterns shaped by overwhelming experiences—healing is possible. Not by forcing change, but by helping your system complete what was interrupted.

When the Past Doesn't Fully Settle

Most people experience difficult or overwhelming events at some point in their lives. In many cases, the mind and body are able to naturally process and recover over time. But sometimes, that process gets interrupted.

These are not signs of weakness—they are signs that your system is trying to protect you, but has become stuck.

You may find yourself

  • Feeling on edge or constantly alert
  • Avoiding reminders of past experiences
  • Replaying events or feeling "pulled back" into them
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
  • Struggling with trust, safety, or control
Understanding Trauma

A Different Way of Understanding Trauma

I view trauma and PTSD not as something "broken," but as a natural healing process that has been disrupted. The work of therapy is not to force change, but to help your system complete what was interrupted—reducing patterns of avoidance and reactivity and supporting your capacity to process and integrate experience.

Healing becomes possible when the mind and body are able to move again.

Evidence-Based Treatment

My approach includes formal training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), developed and widely used within systems such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

This work focuses on identifying and examining beliefs shaped by trauma, understanding how those beliefs affect your emotions and behavior, and developing more balanced, flexible ways of thinking.

Culture & Healing

Culture as a Pathway to Healing

My work has been shaped by extensive experience with individuals and communities carrying intergenerational and collective trauma, including Native, Black, and Brown communities.

Through this work, I have come to understand that culture itself can be a powerful protective factor in healing—and that healing does not happen in only one way.

While therapy can be an important part of the process, I encourage a broader view that may include community and relationships, cultural and ancestral practices, spiritual or contemplative traditions, and meaning-making and identity.

A Broader View of Healing

Western therapeutic models are one pathway—but not the only one. In our work, we may incorporate:

  • Mindfulness and awareness-based practices
  • Grounding and nervous system regulation
  • Exploration of values, identity, and meaning
  • Community, ancestral, and cultural practices

Together, we can explore what healing looks like in a way that is authentic and relevant to you.
